Our Curriculum
Our curriculum follows the EYFS Guidance. We plan and deliver activities related to a familiar core story book each week. The children have a daily phonic session, literacy session, math session and independent learning opportunities. We ensure that the children have access to the Prime areas of learning to develop their Physical development, Personal, Social and Emotional development and Communication skills. The children also have opportunities to explore the specific areas of learning with focus on Literacy and Math. the learning environment is fun and engaging and reflects other areas of learning such as Understand The World and Expressive Arts.
Phonics
In phonics we follow the song of sound scheme. This develops the children's recognition of sounds (phonemes) and their awareness of graphemes (letter). The strategies we use include robot sounds, sound buttons and phoneme fingers to support learning.
Literacy
In literacy we develop our ability to retell and join in with familiar stories. We employ strategies from Communication cookbook and Pre-teaching vocabulary to enhance our children's language and writing skills.
Math
In Math we follow the White Rose scheme of work. We ensure our children learn mathematical concepts in a fun and play based way. Our children enjoy engaging with number rhymes and songs.
PE
At Silver End we are very fortunate to have a Prime area of learning delivered by a sports coach. The children have a weekly PE session to develop their physical skills.
Expressive Arts
Through Expressive Arts the children have an opportunity to explore a range of artistic and creative mediums such as role play, music, dance and imagination. The children have a dedicated role play area and a wide range of costumes and props to support their imaginative play.
Art
We are very fortunate to have an Art teacher that leads the children's artistic development during teachers PPA time. Children have an opportunity to explore a wide range of media and materials.
Outdoors
Our free flow outdoor area ensures that the children have an opportunity to independently test their physical coordination and balance. We promote the use of bikes and large motor activities to further support the children's enjoyment and development.
Forest School
Throughout your child's time with us they will have the opportunity of exploring our forest area. Forest school sessions will also be lead by a forest school leader which will develop the children's curiousity and engagement with the natural world.
Construction
Through construction children are able to assemble and join a range of materials. They can create small world scenes and demonstrate their awareness of shapes.
Awards
We hold weekly silver certificate assemblies recognising and celebrating the children's achievements that week linked to our core values. We also in EYFS hold a weekly reading certificate to promote reading progress and the reading contributions from home.
