Year 5/6 Code of Conduct
Our Codes of conduct are our "Steps to success", together we will...
- Treat each other how we want to be treated, we will be responsible; help not hurt
- Be a good role model; by being positive, honest and polite
- Think of others' feelings; listening and acting with respect, care and kindness
- Work together as a team; to try our best and help each other to succeed
- Set our expectations high and have pride in all we do
Reading is so important which is why we encourage the children to read as often as possible. Each day, our class will engage in Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) giving the children the opportunity to read quietly for an extended period of time. Alongside this, all children read to an adult at least once a week. We use Accelerated Reader (AR) to assess children's reading comprehension and the children can also 'quiz' books that they have read. Guided reading takes place weekly and regular reading comprehension lessons occur. We refer to VIPERS when asking questions and checking for understanding and we teach pupils that questions usually fall into these categories. The questions in the grid below are great to use when your child reads to you at home too.
This term we will be linking our History and English together: we will be focussing on The Ancient Greeks. We will read Maz Evans' Who Let the Gods Out as a class and our English lessons will be based on this text.
Below are spellings that children should be practising and are expected to know by the end of Key Stage 2.
Here is the link to quiz your books at home. Remember, you can quiz your own books too, not just school ones.
In Maths, we are continuing to use Power Maths. Power Maths is a UK curriculum mastery programme designed to spark curiosity and excitement and nurture confidence in maths, well linked to the developing of a positive growth mindset using fun characters. To reinforce learning we will also be using White Rose which encourages children to embed skills and develop understanding between aspects of maths.
Times Table Rock Stars
Children need to be continually practising their times tables as this is one of the key fundamentals of maths.
Purple Mash is a valuable learning tool, with lots of fun and educational activities to support children's learning.
