    Religious Education and Worldviews (RE)

Enabling our pupils to engage in balanced, informed, and thoughtful conversations about religion and worldviews through the development of religious literacy.

At Silver End Academy, we are committed to delivering a high-quality Religious Education and Worldviews curriculum. Following the Saffron Academy Trust scheme and the Essex Agreed Syllabus (2022), we aim to develop pupils’ religious literacy—the ability to understand, interpret, and discuss religion and worldviews thoughtfully. Our RE curriculum helps pupils make sense of the beliefs and practices around them and understand the complex world in which they live.

RE at Silver End Academy encourages pupils to become free-thinking, critical participants in public discourse, enabling them to make academically informed judgements about religion, belief, and their global significance.

    Aims of our RE curriculum:

    • To know about and understand a range of religious and non-religious worldviews, exploring these through theological, philosophical, and human/social science lenses.

    • To express ideas and insights about the nature, significance, and impact of religious and non-religious worldviews using a multidisciplinary approach.

    • To develop skills rooted in theology, philosophy, and the human/social sciences, engaging critically with diverse perspectives.

Pupils’ progress is assessed in line with the purpose and aims of the subject. This primarily focuses on how effectively pupils can hold balanced, informed conversations about religion and worldviews—measuring growth in religious literacy.

Parents and carers have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education. For further information, please contact the school office.
