Design and Technology at Silver End Academy
At Silver End Academy, our Design and Technology (DT) curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and practical thinking from the earliest years. Following the Kapow Primary scheme of work, pupils engage in a wide range of projects that develop their design, making, and evaluation skills. These projects include working with materials such as textiles, construction kits, and recycled items, as well as exploring basic electronics and mechanisms.
Our DT lessons are hands-on and purposeful, encouraging children to think critically and solve real-world problems. Pupils are guided through the design process—researching, planning, creating, and evaluating their work—while learning key vocabulary and technical knowledge. We place a strong emphasis on resilience, collaboration, and reflective thinking, helping every child to develop confidence in their ideas and abilities.
Food Technology at Silver End Academy
As part of our DT provision, Food Technology plays a key role in equipping children with essential life skills. Pupils enjoy regular opportunities to take part in practical cooking sessions, where they learn about food safety, hygiene, and nutrition in a fun and engaging environment. From preparing simple snacks to making healthy meals, children develop their understanding of where food comes from and how to make informed choices about what they eat.
These hands-on experiences not only support the science and health education curriculum but also encourage independence, teamwork, and pride in their achievements. By the time they leave Silver End Academy, our pupils are equipped with the confidence and basic cooking skills to make healthy, informed decisions and enjoy food as part of a balanced lifestyle.
