Inspiring our pupils to develop a deep understanding of Britain’s past and the wider world, and to foster a lifelong curiosity about history.

At Silver End Academy, our History curriculum aims to spark children’s curiosity about the past and help them understand how people and events have shaped the world we live in today. Following the Lion Pathways scheme of work, we provide a well-sequenced and engaging curriculum that develops children’s knowledge, enquiry skills, and appreciation of the richness and diversity of human experience.

Our curriculum:

• Builds pupils’ chronological understanding and awareness of significant events, periods, and individuals in both British and world history.

• Encourages the use of historical enquiry skills, including questioning, analysing evidence, and evaluating different interpretations of the past.

• Develops a strong historical vocabulary and understanding of key concepts, enabling pupils to communicate their ideas with clarity and confidence.

• Provides opportunities to explore a wide range of historical sources, such as artefacts, documents, and oral histories, to promote critical thinking and interpretation.

• Helps pupils make connections between past and present, deepening their understanding of how history influences the modern world.

• Ensures clear progression through carefully sequenced units that build on prior knowledge and strengthen long-term understanding.

• Includes time for consolidation and reflection, helping pupils retain key knowledge and refine their analytical thinking.
