Literacy
To support Literacy learning, we use a core traditional story / text each week, linked to our overall theme.
The children have the opportunity to develop mind maps of key events in stories, brainstorming key characters, what happened, where the story was set and the ending.
They have the opportunity to use Colourful Semantics to develop sentences linked to our stories.
The children work in partners and small groups to answer who, what, where, why, when and how questions, to deepen their awareness of traditional stories.
The children are also given opportunities to apply key vocabulary linked to story to retell, develop awareness of characters through hot seating and also share their ideas with their peers.
To support children's writing development, in Literacy, we are using Jonathan Bond, English Specialist, strategies to support our children's development.
The children have the opportunity to scribe daily sentences using sounds found within their phonic capacity as per our Little Wandle Scheme.
Children use visuals to support their understanding of constructing simple sentences.
