Admissions Arrangements- Silver End Academy
In the event of more applications being received than there are places available, the Board of Trustees will consider applications according to the following criteria:
A ‘looked after child’ or a child who was previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, residence or special guardianship order will be given first priority in oversubscription criteria ahead of all other applicants in accordance with the School Admissions Code 2014. A looked after child is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions (as defined in Section 22(1) of the Children Act 1989)
1. Looked after children (as defined above);
2. *Children with a sibling attending the school;
3. Children living in the priority admission area;
4. Remaining applications.
In the event of oversubscription within any of the above criteria, priority will be determined by straight line distance from home to school, those living closest being given highest priority.
If your child has not been offered a place at your preferred school you have the right to appeal. Please refer to the Primary Education booklet.
*A sibling refers to a brother or sister, half-brother or sister, adopted brother or sister, or stepbrother or stepsister living in the same family unit and at the same address as that sibling.
Parents will appreciate that if the School is over-subscribed it will not always be possible to offer a place. If your child is not offered a place at Silver End Academy you have the right of appeal to the Admission Appeals Committee- The Board of Trustees. The appeal should be made in writing to the Clerk to the Governors, stating the grounds of the appeal, within ten working days of receipt of notification that no place is available for your child; the appeal will be heard as soon as possible thereafter.
