At Silver End Academy we celebrate the diversity and inclusion of pupils with additional needs including both academic and/or social, emotional difficulties. It is our aim to ensure that all pupils have access to a broad curriculum and all included in all aspects of school life; support will be matched to their individual requirements. We work closely with parents, recognising the importance of the home partnership in reducing barriers to learning and increasing the child’s confidence and self esteem.
We follow a staged approach to Inclusion in line with the current Code of Practice. The school has a dedicated Inclusion team which includes the Inclusion co-ordinator, Mrs Finch and well-being team including the Family Support Worker, Mrs Lonton and Well- Being Mentor, Mrs Herron. Although there is a dedicated Inclusion team we recognise that positive learning experiences for pupils take place in the classroom with first quality teaching, appropriate support and teaching staff who are committed to planning provision for individual pupils needs- it is a whole school approach. The school also seeks guidance and consults where appropriate with outside agencies such as Health professionals, Speech, Language and Communication Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists and the Specialist teacher team to plan and ensure the best outcomes for children.
Many pupils who have One Plans and/or EHCP (Educational Health Care Plans) are supported through a range of regular, effective interventions including a very successful program of Play Therapy and specific interventions to target progress in the core subjects such as reading, writing and maths interventions.
The school is committed to an inclusive approach to education and every effort is made to accommodate children with specific needs.
