• The aim is to create ‘real writers’ who have control over the whole writing process, who understand the power of writing and who enjoy writing as a craft.
• The English scheme of work reflects the National Curriculum’s organisation of writing into planning, composing and evaluating
• To cover a range of key skills by extending writing objectives, especially in composing
• To teach writing style throughout the primary school
• To develop proof reading (correcting mistakes), editing (improving the writing) and revising (reflecting on the whole piece of writing to see if it meets the purpose for the intended audience) skills, and redrafting as necessary.

We aim to develop children’s ability to produce well-structured, detailed writing in which the meaning is made. To engage children in the writing process, they are given opportunities to write for a range of purposes; they are encouraged to think about the intended reader considering ways to keep them interested from the start of a text right through to the end. Particular attention is paid throughout the school to the formal structures of English: grammatical detail, punctuation and spelling.

Our scheme of work allows children to have the opportunity to explore rich, high-quality texts in depth, enhancing reading comprehension and providing meaningful contexts and purposes for writing.
