Mrs English and Mrs Taylor
What will we be learning this half-term?
This half term we are basing our English work around the book Meerkat Mail. We will be looking at new vocabulary and how to expand our vocabulary knowledge. We will revisit the days of the week, learn conjunctions, different sentences types, hot seat Sunny (the Meerkat) and lots more! We will be writing a diary, letters and the story across the half term.
Ask your child to retell the story to you. See what actions they use and how they punctuate their sentences! J
Year 2: This half term we will be focusing on Multiplication and Division. We will be looking at making and sharing equal groups. We will be looking at repeated addition and building arrays to solve multiplication and division. We will then spend some time looking at 2D and 3D shapes.
This half term we will be finding out all about animals and their habitats. We will go on a microhabitat hunt around the school to find lots of mini-beasts. Linking to our Geography theme, we will be looking at the different animals from the 7 continents and take a look deep under the oceans. We will be thinking about the animals in their habitats and creating food chains.
This half term we will be learning to apply all our stage 3 sounds and alternative digraphs. We will continue to work on spelling tricky words and learning patterns to help us spell them. We will also learn about suffixes – ment, -ness, -ly, -ful and –less.
This half term we will continue to look at special places. We will be looking at Hinduism and special places to those of the Hindu faith, such as a Mandir (Hindu temple), a shrine at home and the River Ganges, especially in Varanasi, India. We will also be looking at Judaism and special places to those of the Jewish faith, such as Synagogues and the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
In Geography this half term we will be off on our travels around the world. We will be looking at the 7 continents and 5 oceans of our world. We will be learning about different countries in each of the continents. We will be listening to different music from each of the continents, studying art work from the continents and finding out lots of facts about them.
Have you been to a different country? Ask your child to find out what continent that country is in.
