Hi Charing Cross
Today we launch Teams for children's remote learning, both an exciting and nervous time! Using your login details, you will now be able to access your lessons online. There will be English and Maths lessons Monday - Thursday with afternoon lessons incorporating our Theme, Science, P.E, ICT and PSHE/ RE. On Fridays, there will be lessons for Art, Music, French and P.E, which will be delivered by specialist teachers in these subjects.
When you log in to Teams, you might be able to see videos and resources for future lessons, but please do not rush ahead as there is plenty for you to do each day in the work that has been set. Also, many of the lessons are chronological and therefore need to be completed in the correct order.
Today's lessons are:
Maths (1 hr)
English(1 hr)
Theme (1-2hrs)
Remember that you can still access TT Rockstars and need to quiz your reading book using Renaissance Reading.
Keep an eye on the CBBC channel (am) and BBC2 (pm) as there are many educational programmes on at the moment each day, which can be watched in addition to the lessons provided to support and extend learning.
Remember that you can email me on silvercharing@connectedlearningmat.co.uk
Good luck and take care of yourselves.

Hi Charing Cross
Thank you for all your hard work last week - it was great to see so many of you engaging in the activities on Purple Mash and the Maths and English tasks set here on our class page.
This week, on Monday and Tuesday, I have once again set you work to complete on Purple Mash including: spellings, reading comprehension quizzes, Monster Multiplication, a leaflet about electrical safety and a history task linked to Queen Victoria. From Wednesday, we will be using Teams to deliver online learning, which is not only new to you but it is also new to us, so we will learn and work together through any initial problems!! Thank you in advance of your patience during this time. Your work will be set on Teams and, when you log in using the details you have recently received, you will be able to access relevant video links, documents to help with your learning and activity sheets to be completed.
If you need to contact me about work then the class email address is silvercharing@connectedlearningmat.co.uk . This week, I will be available Monday to Thursday, but I am working in school on Friday, so please bear with me as responses to any completed activities and replies to emails may well be delayed on this day.
Take care and keep up the good work.

Hello Charing Cross,
I hope you had a lovely Christmas break and enjoyed watching some festive films, going on wintery walks (without the snow!) and, of course, eating a couple of mince pies!
Unfortunately the new year has not started as we would have wished and, rather than seeing you back in class, we are going to have to use online learning again for a few weeks. Over the next three days (6.1.21 - 8.1.21), I will be putting the work you need to complete on this class page - there will be all the links you need to access relevant websites, powerpoints and documents. Some of the activities will be set as 'To Dos' in Purple Mash.
If you have any problems or questions then you can email me via Purple Mash. I am working in school on Friday this week, so will only be available on Wednesday and Thursday.
Good luck with all the tasks - challenge yourselves and be resilient!
Take care.
Miss Wright
SCIENCE
Our theme this term is history based and we shall be studying life in Victorian times and learning about major developments that happened during this period.
To begin with, over the next three days, we would like you to complete two tasks:
Task 1 is to research the life of Queen Victoria and make notes using the following headings:
- Early life & childhood
- Early adulthood
- Married life & children
- Key events during her reign e.g. The Great Exhibition
- Later life
Make sure you record the notes in your own words and include as much detail as possible as we will be writing a biography of Queen Victoria over the coming weeks and these notes will be very useful. I have added links below to a couple of useful websites but there will be plenty of others.
Enjoy researching and discovering.
Reading is very, very important so read, read and read a bit more! You can read books, magazines, comics, blogs, newspapers etc and you can read to yourself, anyone at home, your pet or even the flowers in your garden so no excuses - keep reading! Don't forget that you can still quiz books at home using the AR quizzes.
TT Rockstars
Remember to log in to TT Rockstars each day to practise your times tables. Play against yourself or set up battles between each other. Knowing your times tables will make every other topic in maths much easier so get practising Year 5 & 6.
PURPLE MASH
Winter Reading Challenge
This year's Winter Reading Challenge launches this Saturday, the 5th of December, in all Essex County Council libraries.
See below for a poster explaining the challenge in more detail.
